Limited Residential Contractors Licensing Course (BC-Ar)

The Limited Residential Contractor Licensing Course (LRC) is the next step for many who are looking to transition from construction worker to contractor and for those looking to start a construction business.

The 32 hours of instruction includes a review of the license application process, the International Building Code, an introduction to TN construction laws, legal and financial issues, accounting practices, loans, liens, and insurance. Class participants will receive fundamental instruction needed to own and operate a small construction company in areas such as blueprint reading and estimating, building to specifications and adherence to codes and regulations.

Added to the schedule is a 5th day, “Beyond the Course" (Saturday, August 23, 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.). Students will hear from experts in Banking, Accounting, Insurance, Law and others.

Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive a Certification of Completion (usually within 7-10 business days). This certificate must accompany the license application as proof of course completion. **The Certificate of Completion is good for 2 years.**

Course completion is the first step to obtaining a Limited Residential Contractor License (BC-Ar) issued by the Tennessee State Board for Licensing Contractors. In addition to course completion, students must:

• Set up their business structure (if not already set up)
• Secure general liability insurance and workers compensation insurance (or an exemption)
• Provide proof of funds in the business' bank account ($12,500)
• Complete and submit the application to the State of Tennessee

All other rules, regulations, and statutes must be met to qualify. Course meets the requirement of the Tennessee State Board for Restricted/Limited Residential License (BC-A/r).

*A Limited Residential BC-A/r license means contractors are authorized to bid on and contract for construction, remodel, repair, or improvement of a single-family dwelling at or below $125,000.

Books and Materials are included in the course fee. Please plan to bring your own laptop.
